10 Best Places to Retire in Washington State

Retirement is a time to embrace the places that bring you joy, comfort, and a sense of adventure.  Whether you’re planning to explore the world or settle closer to family, Washington State offers a wealth of vibrant communities, diverse landscapes, and a milder climate. The Evergreen State offers everything from serene coastal towns to lush forests to lively urban centers. Furthermore, Washington has something to offer every retiree.

Check out the best places to retire in Washington.

Snoqualmie

If you drive just 25 miles outside of Seattle, you will be surrounded by the natural beauty of Snoqualmie.

Known for the beautiful Snoqualmie Falls and recognized as Home of the Boeing Classic, this small town has boundless recreation, great food and pioneer history. Imagine being 25 miles from a metropolitan city and 20 miles from a ski resort. Who wouldn’t want to be in the middle of this fun?

While the prices of homes are slightly higher than Seattle’s, this is an excellent spot if you want to resize to a condo. With the minimal maintenance required for a condo, they can be a perfect location for retirees.

North Bend

Ever watched the show Twin Peaks? Love cherry pie and coffee? Well, then, North Bend is a place you may want to consider for retirement.

Just 33 miles from Seattle and the neighboring town of Snoqualmie, homes start around $650K.

This town is not only surrounded by trails for hiking and biking but it also offers residents a family-like community. With its annual “Christmas Carol” play by the Valley Center Stage, you may wonder if you’re in a Hallmark movie.

North Bend has so much to offer people desiring a calmer, sweeter life while also being close to bustling cities.

Lake Chelan

Are you a water activity enthusiast? Then let’s migrate over to Chelan. If you want to be close to conveniences and surrounded by stunning nature and outdoor activities, Lake Chelan is the place for you.

This area is a summer hot spot for city dwellers because it is a few hours from Seattle. Chelan has all of the fun that boaters and outdoor enthusiasts enjoy. This fun-filled city will draw friends and family to you, as everyone will want to visit you and enjoy all of the activities that Chelan has to offer. If you love hosting, Chelan is the perfect location for you.

While the median home price in Chelan is around $1.1M, depending on location and size, this area offers many affordable homes.

However, if you’re looking to significantly decrease your housing expenses or find a summer vacation spot in Washington, let’s take a look at one of my favorite areas, the Olympic Peninsula.

The Peninsulas

The Olympic Peninsula is located across the Puget Sound from Seattle and has 1,442 square miles of adventure for everyone.

This destination is like no other and hosts some of the most beautiful natural wildlife in the Pacific Northwest. Nestled around the Olympic mountain range this area boasts an abundance of beaches, mountains, rainforests, trails, waterfalls and stunning viewpoints.

Along with all of this beauty you will get to explore some of the most charming towns, with each one bringing their unique flare to the area.
